What is PLA+ and how does it differ from standard PLA?
PLA+ is not a separate plastic; it is PLA resin with toughening additives. It keeps the easy printing of PLA while noticeably reducing how brittle the finished part is.
What actually changes
Impact resistance: where standard PLA cracks, PLA+ bends instead
Layer adhesion: stronger — it shows on parts that get screwed or stressed
Surface: layer lines are less visible, with a smooth matte texture
Ease of printing: the same as PLA — no enclosure or special nozzle needed
When PLA+, when PETG?
For parts that take mechanical load but stay indoors, PLA+ is enough and far easier to print. Once sun and heat are involved (inside a car, outdoors) move to PETG or ASA: PLA and its variants start to soften around 55–60 °C.
Settings
PLA+ is usually printed 5–10 °C hotter than standard PLA; 205–225 °C is a good starting range. Bed at 55–60 °C, fan at full.
